Today was a lecture on Human Rights. Quite interesting…and a topic that I am particularly interested in. We discussed the jurisdiction and work of several international organizations in this area and I am quite excited about the opportunity that we will have to visit a select few of them in the coming weeks and speak with the practitioners in this field. Our visiting professor however did provide a good overview of the legal jurisdiction of particular organizations and gave us a great framework of understanding.
As far as extracurricular activities, we decided to take it pretty light and remain in Fribourg. However…there is much to do here! My favorite activity was our trip to the “Chocolat” factory where we loaded up on chocolate to bring home (or eat here, depending on the person!). There is a little cafĂ© attached to the factory that serves amazing hot chocolate! I am now severely regretting my decision not to purchase a canister of it to bring home with me…I’ll have to see about remedying that situation asap.
Meals are quite the social occasion here in Fribourg. A huge financial blessing is that meals are included in the tuition (not that it was cheap!), so we all of my classmates generally take meals at the same time. There is always an interesting conversation going on…whether it be about music, politics, humanitarian issues, books, food, etc.
Following dinner, most of us attempted to go to bed early. We have a site visit to Geneva tomorrow and will have to meet at the bus at 6:30 a.m. for the two hour drive down to the city.
