Last night I brought home a kitten! Our family hasn't owned a cat since I was in first grade, so this was a big change for me. Admittedly, I knew nothing about kittens - and it amused my co-workers when I researched all the different aspects of owning and caring for one properly. Go ahead all of you veteran cat owners - laugh. It's okay.
In all of my research, however, they either forgot to mention, or I missed one thing. After about 10 minutes of being here - the kitten disappeared. I mean really disappeared. I searched for him for hours -- in things, under things, behind things, on top of things...to no avail. Quite a feat for the little guy, since my apartment is so small! Being a Google fan (and possibly because I'm a psychology graduate), I wondered if it was possibly a normal behavior for kittens, and what I might be able to do to fix this little problem. Come to find out - it is a normal thing (and you can't really do anything about it). Who knew?! Thankfully, it didn't take him two days to emerge, like the article I read said it might.

He woke me up with a very quiet, half "mew" this morning at 5:45. We had some great bonding moments despite the early hour. I was able to introduce him to his food, water, litter, (which in the research, they said to show to him right away - but he hid too quickly!) his cubby hole, and toys.
Paula is now in love with him (she was a little hesitant and unexcited at first), and has been calling Oreo (even though his name is Jett). He is very friendly, but not clingy - and I think he will be a great companion for her. And I think he's a cute litte guy too.
