A Busy October

My October started off with the largest outreach event our church has ever had. Wait...back up. My October started off with a very last minute decision to watch Nathan for the weekend while Annette and mom went to a Women of Faith conference (mom will write about that later). Yes, the same weekend our church was hosting a nationally acclaimed Christian illusionist and improv comedy team that were coming to our little village.

Nathan and I had a great time, and I was so thankful for the opportunity to hang out with this handsome little man who seems to be growing up way too fast.

Very intrigued by numbers and buttons, he enjoyed playing with my calculator.

The next morning proved to be interesting while I attempted to find a semi-nutritious breakfast that he would eat. We settled on popcorn, cucumbers, and orange juice.

Later that morning we went to the school playground and spent some time with two little girls from our church who I was also watching. Nathan seemed especially fond of the slides, both walking up them and sliding down.

During our time at the playground, Nathan and the two girls heard two other boys playing what I can only assume was "Ice Cream Truck"...they kept making music and calling out "Ice-cream, get your ice-cream here!" Needless to say, I had three very persistent children who kept saying "Can we go get ice-cream, Miss Ash-a-lee?" Not being able to resist such faces, we shoved three car seats in the back of my car and off we went to enjoy some chocolate and strawberry ice-cream.

After a day full of playing, Nathan finally settled down for a nap. Outside, and completely on accident I'm sure.

The event that night was Harris III and 321 Improv - the Mayhem & Misdirection tour. If you have the opportunity to see them, it was quite an experience and I highly recommend it for an amazing family event.

Candy came home the next weekend - and we enjoyed a few classic autumn pastimes. An early snow was the first reality check that she wasn't in the south anymore!

We bundled up and went to the great adirondack corn maze, where God provided us with a beautifully landscaped night.

The Sunday night before she left, we painted pumpkins. It's the first time I remember ever painting pumpkins, so I got a little excited and bought four!

Final result - two happy faces (four if you count ours!), one cat (Candy painted in honor of Jett), and our names (that was me because I wasn't creative enough to think of anything else).

Still coming up in October...I'm the photographer at the wedding of a childhood friend, and our church's Fall Festival.
